Atlantic City's Department of Health and Human Services is dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents by providing programs, services and support that strengthen individuals, families and neighborhoods.

The department oversees several divisions that touch nearly every stage of life, including Recreation, Youth Services, Senior Services and Multicultural Services, ensuring residents of all ages have opportunities to stay active, connected and engaged.

Beyond those divisions, Health and Human Services leads some of the city's most impactful initiatives focused on public safety, second chances and community well-being.

One of those initiatives is the O.N.E. (One Neighborhood Evolution) Anti-Violence Program, created to take a proactive approach to violence prevention. Rather than waiting for violence to occur, the program engages directly with residents, particularly young people, through mentorship, outreach, educational workshops, peace walks and community events designed to steer youth toward positive opportunities. The division also launched the nationally recognized Pull Up 4 Peace Conference, bringing violence prevention professionals, community leaders and advocates from across the country to Atlantic City to collaborate on creating safer communities.

Health & Human Services also believes in the power of second chances through its Reentry Services Division.

Recognizing that successful reentry reduces recidivism and strengthens communities, the division helps formerly incarcerated individuals prepare for life after release by developing personalized reentry plans and connecting them with critical resources including housing, employment, transportation, healthcare, substance abuse treatment and mental health services. The division also works with individuals before their release through educational workshops and annually recognizes those who have successfully rebuilt their lives, celebrating the positive impact second chances can have on individuals, families and the community.

Health & Human Services Community Engagement Unit works to improve quality of life by connecting residents experiencing hardship with the resources they need. Through its Homeless Outreach Team, Community Service Aides and social workers engage individuals experiencing homelessness, helping connect them with housing, support services and long-term assistance. The division also administers programs that provide rent and utility assistance, helping families remain stable during difficult times.

Together, these efforts reflect a department focused on meeting people where they are and providing the support needed to help them succeed.
