Atlantic City Adds to Ongoing Improvements at City Hall with Cafe, New Flooring

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - Improvements at City Hall in Atlantic City are continuing, with a new café adding a practical amenity for employees and visitors while creating a new opportunity for a local small business.

The Great Day Café, operated by local small business Beat the Daily Grind Café, recently opened in the City Hall lobby. The café is part of the City’s ongoing effort to improve the building and create a more welcoming, functional environment for the employees who work there and the residents who visit.

The café occupies a previously unused ground-floor space that was renovated and expanded for the project. Rather than leaving the space empty, the City transformed it into a useful amenity while bringing a local business into City Hall and giving it an opportunity to grow. That approach is consistent with the City’s focus on supporting Atlantic City’s small business community, creating opportunities for local businesses while providing services that benefit residents and City employees.

The café is one of several recent improvements at City Hall. The City also recently completed a complete renovation of the City Hall lobby flooring, giving one of the building’s most frequently used public spaces a fresh new look. The flooring project was completed by Home Improvement Solutions, Bo Knows Design LLC, Lone Wolf Coatings and TheEpoxyFather.

In addtion, exterior painting was completed on the South Carolina and Tennessee Avenue sides of the building over the summer, and last month City Hall was dedicated in honor of the late Ernest D. Coursey, Sr.

The goal behind the improvements is to make City Hall a place that employees can feel good about coming to work in and that residents and visitors can feel comfortable walking into.

The Great Day Café is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering coffee, snacks and grab-and-go breakfast and lunch options. The café project was led by City of Atlantic City Health & Human Services Director Jarrod Barnes, whose Certified Public Manager capstone project focused on bringing more nutritious food options to City Hall.

The improvements may be taking place one project at a time, but together they represent a continued investment in City Hall and in doing so, Atlantic City as a whole.
