Nazifah Afra won the Black History-themed spelling bee at Texas Avenue School by correctly spelling "demonstration." The event, sponsored by CHORUS and Caesars Entertainment, celebrated African American history and literacy while inspiring students to strive for excellence.

Mayor Marty Small Sr., alongside Council Vice President Kaleem Shabazz and local leaders, led the event, reflecting on the Home’s legacy and the countless lives it has touched over the past century.The event set the stage for a year of meaningful programs, exhibits, and commemorations, all dedicated to preserving the rich history of the All Wars Memorial Building. Attendees shared stories, honored veterans, and looked ahead to a future that continues to uphold the values of service and sacrifice.
