The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School Complex, an elementary school in Atlantic CIty, recently hosted its annual science fair, inspiring students from grades 3 through 8 to explore, experiment, and innovate. Led by Principal Jodi Burroughs and Superintendent of Schools Dr. La'Quetta S. Small, the event encouraged young learners to dive into the scientific method, fostering creativity and critical thinking.
“It was great, and it was a great opportunity for kids to show what they’ve learned and what they have been thinking about in science,” Principal Burroughs shared.
Students showcased an impressive range of projects — from classic models like volcanoes and water cycles to inventive, out-of-the-box creations like a science-based vending machine, which stood out as a first for the fair. Burroughs praised the students' innovation, highlighting how they embraced ideas “that aren’t normally done.”
This year’s theme, "Environmental Science in Action," guided students to focus their experiments on fixing the environment. Tamara Mingo, 5th grade science teacher and word study instructor, applauded the young scientists' efforts to tackle environmental issues, showing how science can make a real-world impact.
The fair not only celebrated the students' impressive scientific achievements but also nurtured a spirit of inquiry and lifelong learning. The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of science education, empowering students to think critically and embrace the endless possibilities of discovery.
