Atlantic City Senior Services recently held its 2nd Annual Black Birders Event at the Edwin B. Forsythe Wildlife Refuge, offering local seniors an unforgettable day immersed in the beauty and education of the natural world.

The event was designed to highlight the importance of inclusivity in outdoor spaces while celebrating Black Birders Week, a national movement that promotes diversity in birding and environmental awareness.

Seniors participated in a range of outdoor activities beginning with a scenic drive tour through the Wetlands, where they observed local wildlife and learned about the ecology of the refuge. The ride provided a relaxing and informative introduction to the day’s exploration.

Following the drive, participants enjoyed a delicious lunch that gave everyone a chance to socialize and reflect on their surroundings. The sense of community and appreciation for nature was present throughout the event.

After lunch, seniors embarked on a guided hike through the forest trails of the reserve. With the help of expert guides, they explored native plants, birds, and ecosystems that are unique to the Forsythe area.

The hike not only allowed for physical activity but also sparked conversations about environmental stewardship and the importance of preserving local habitats for future generations.

The Friends of Forsythe NWR played a critical role in making this day possible, offering support, guidance, and resources that made the event both educational and enjoyable.

Atlantic City Senior Services emphasized how fortunate the city is to have such rich natural resources nearby. They expressed gratitude for the opportunity to expose seniors to these experiences and encourage lifelong learning.

The event reinforced the idea that it's never too late to learn something new, enjoy nature, and be part of a meaningful cause. It also highlighted the ongoing commitment of the city to support inclusive programming for all its residents.

This annual tradition continues to grow in impact and popularity, and Atlantic City Senior Services looks forward to expanding the event even further in the years to come.
