Sovereign Avenue School hosted a vibrant and engaging Career Fair on April 11, 2025, offering students a firsthand look at a variety of professional paths. Organized by Assistant Principal Bonnie Lynch and Principal Nicole Williams, the event was designed to broaden students’ perspectives and introduce them to careers beyond the traditional classroom curriculum.
The day featured several exciting presentations, including a standout K-9 demonstration by the Atlantic City Police Department. Officers Mike Braxton Jr. and Dooley Brent, along with their canine partners Ryker and Jax, showcased how dogs assist in suspect apprehension and bomb detection, captivating students with real-world examples of law enforcement in action.
Students also engaged with representatives from AtlantiCare Emergency Medical Services, who provided insight into the lifesaving roles of EMTs. Battalion Chief Dan DeMarco and EMT Chris Trench led an interactive ambulance tour and answered student questions, emphasizing the importance of emergency response work.
The fair offered even more inspiration with appearances from engineers, a hair stylist, and local DJ Jayln Harris—known professionally as DJ Jay—who spoke about turning a passion for music into a successful career. Students explored prosthesis technology with the engineers and learned how creativity and technical skills can shape exciting professions in various fields.
The event wrapped up with an empowering message from DJ Jay: “If you decide you want to do something, the only thing stopping you is yourself.” The Sovereign Avenue School Career Fair succeeded in motivating students to dream big and explore the many possibilities their futures may hold.
