For five decades, Spanky & Son Subs & Deli has been a fixture in Chelsea Heights, a gathering place for generations of Atlantic City residents and an example of what it takes to build a business that stands the test of time.
Founded in 1976 by Brian “Spanky” Lowe and Carmen Lowe, Spanky’s has remained a family-operated business for the last 50 years. Mayor Marty Small, Sr. recognized that milestone by proclaiming “Spanky’s Day” in the City of Atlantic City.

The 50th anniversary represents five decades of showing up for customers, building relationships and remaining committed to the community.
Over the years, the Lowe family withstood challenges that tested businesses across Atlantic City and beyond. Through it all, Spanky’s continued to serve its customers with the dependable service, quality food and personal touch that have helped make the business a Chelsea Heights institution.

For generations of customers, Spanky’s has become a place where people know they can find more than a good sandwich. It has also been a place for friendship, guidance, support and a helping hand when members of the community needed it. That kind of connection is a key part of what can help a small business succeed for decades.
Atlantic City’s business community continues to evolve, with new businesses opening, established businesses expanding and longtime neighborhood institutions continuing to adapt to changing times. Spanky’s provides a tangible example of how consistency, resilience and strong relationships with customers can create a foundation for long-term success.
