Atlantic City Senior Services Reflected on a Special Trip to "Stompin' at The Savoy"

By:
Elizabeth Trigg

Atlantic City Senior Services took a break from their usual routine and embarked on a special trip filled with culture and history. The weekly Fun and Fitness Class, usually led by Terri Bethea of T. Diamond Fitness, took a day off from exercising and traveled to Wilmington, Delaware.

The group attended the vibrant, music-infused stage play Stompin' at The Savoy. The performance transported everyone back to the golden age of swing, bringing to life the story of Norma Miller, The Lindy Hoppers, and the legendary Savoy Ballroom in Harlem.

The experience offered not just entertainment but also a deep appreciation for the cultural history of swing dance and the Harlem Renaissance. The lively music, energetic dance numbers, and engaging storytelling captured the spirit of a truly transformative era.

For many participants, it was more than just a show — it was a walk through history that reignited memories and created new moments to cherish.

Atlantic City Senior Services expressed gratitude for the opportunity to combine fun, learning, and community building outside of their regular classes.

The outing reinforced the program’s commitment to providing enriching experiences that promote both mental and physical wellness for the city's senior residents.

Following the trip, participants returned home inspired and energized, looking forward to future activities that blend health, culture, and connection.

The weekly Fun and Fitness Class continues to meet every Tuesday at 5 PM, offering seniors a supportive and engaging space to stay active and connected.

For more information on how to join the class or upcoming special events, residents are encouraged to call 609-347-5458.
