The City of Atlantic City successfully held a Flood Safety Workshop last week, providing residents with critical information and resources to stay safe during flooding events. The session, organized months in advance, proved to be incredibly timely following a significant flooding event that occurred in the city over the weekend.
The workshop was a collaborative effort between the Atlantic City Fire Department, Atlantic City Office of Emergency Management, and the Atlantic City Police Department. Together, they shared essential guidance on what residents should do if they experience flooding in their homes, including steps to protect property and ensure personal safety.

Participants learned practical strategies for emergency preparedness, such as how to create a flood safety plan, where to seek assistance, and how to minimize damage during severe weather. The hands-on discussion allowed residents to ask questions directly to city officials and emergency responders.
A highlight of the event was the distribution of FREE Flooding Preparedness Kits, which equipped attendees with essential tools and information for responding effectively to flood-related emergencies. Many of these kits were quickly put to good use as residents applied the knowledge they gained during the recent flood.
The workshop’s timing underscored the city’s proactive approach to community safety and disaster readiness. By offering this educational opportunity before a major weather event, the city demonstrated its strong commitment to empowering residents with knowledge and resources.

Mayor Marty Small Sr. and city officials commended the City of Atlantic City Multicultural Services for organizing the event and ensuring that lifesaving information reached diverse communities across the city.
The session also emphasized the importance of preparedness and community cooperation in responding to natural disasters. Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant, stay informed, and continue participating in future safety programs.
With ongoing climate challenges and the city’s coastal geography, workshops like this play a crucial role in protecting lives and property. The success of this event served as a reminder that education and readiness are key to building a resilient community.
