The City of Atlantic City, through its ongoing “Keep It Local” campaign, proudly celebrated the contributions of small businesses that serve as the heart and soul of the community. Spearheaded by the Economic Development division under the Planning & Development Department, the initiative highlighted businesses that have not only thrived economically but have also made a deep and lasting impact on the lives of residents. Among the honorees, one establishment stood out for its enduring presence and community influence—Pancho’s Mexican Taqueria.

The beloved Ducktown restaurant was honored with the Ducktown AC Community Impact Award, a recognition bestowed on businesses that embody community values, local pride, and long-term commitment to service. The award ceremony celebrated the legacy and contributions of Pancho’s, which has served the Ducktown neighborhood faithfully since 2005.

Josh Cruz - Owner

Founded by Fabiola Sanchez, Pancho’s Mexican Taqueria began as a humble yet passionate effort to bring authentic Mexican cuisine to the Atlantic City community. Over the years, it grew into more than just a restaurant—it became a place where families gathered, neighbors connected, and memories were made. Now under the leadership of Fabiola’s son, Joshua Cruz, the restaurant has continued to uphold its core values while evolving with the times.

From its flavorful tacos and savory burritos to its warm customer service and community engagement, Pancho’s has become a staple in the neighborhood, especially among locals who appreciate its consistency and cultural authenticity. The restaurant’s influence has gone beyond the menu—it has participated in local events, supported neighborhood causes, and helped foster a sense of belonging within Ducktown.

In accepting the Community Impact Award, Joshua Cruz expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, stating, "It’s been a long 20 years for all of us and to receive such an award is an honor." He went on to emphasize the restaurant’s commitment to staying true to its roots while continuing to serve the community with pride. "We’re very grateful to be acknowledged this way. Ducktown is our home, and the people here have supported us from day one," he shared.

The “Keep It Local” campaign is part of Atlantic City’s broader strategy to strengthen local commerce and promote sustainable neighborhood growth. By spotlighting businesses like Pancho’s, the city aims to inspire a culture of local appreciation and investment, encouraging residents and visitors alike to support homegrown establishments that reinvest in the community.

The recognition of Pancho’s Mexican Taqueria is not just about longevity—it is about impact. The restaurant’s ability to thrive for two decades in a dynamic, ever-changing cityscape reflects its adaptability, strong leadership, and unwavering dedication to quality. From first-time customers to loyal patrons, Pancho’s has created lasting impressions and continues to be a beacon of neighborhood pride.

As the city looks to the future, it is clear that small businesses will continue to play a critical role in shaping the identity and economic vitality of Atlantic City. With initiatives like the Keep It Local campaign, the city is doubling down on efforts to highlight the businesses that keep communities strong, resilient, and united.

For the residents of Ducktown and the broader Atlantic City area, Pancho’s Mexican Taqueria is more than just a place to eat—it’s a symbol of cultural richness, family legacy, and enduring community spirit.
