The City of Atlantic City and Mayor Marty Small Sr., together with the City’s Multicultural Services Department, were honored with the Diaspora Excellence Award from Rediscover Africa 2025 and the Ghanaian Associations of South Jersey and Atlantic City.

This distinguished recognition celebrated the city’s long-standing commitment to diversity, cultural unity, and inclusion. The award highlighted how Atlantic City has continued to foster a welcoming environment for all communities, embracing the rich cultural heritage that defines the city’s identity.

The honor stemmed from the city’s landmark Ghana Flag Raising Ceremony held at City Hall in 2023, which marked a historic moment as the first Ghanaian flag raising in the State of New Jersey. The event became a symbol of pride, unity, and respect for cultural traditions.

During that celebration, city officials, Ghanaian community leaders, and residents came together to commemorate not only Ghana’s independence but also the shared values of progress, collaboration, and inclusivity that connect the Ghanaian diaspora and Atlantic City.

The recognition by Rediscover Africa and the Ghanaian Associations underscored the city’s role as a model for multicultural engagement, where cultural diversity is viewed as a strength that enriches civic life.

Mayor Marty Small Sr. expressed gratitude for the award, noting that Atlantic City’s multicultural initiatives are part of an ongoing effort to honor and uplift every community represented in the city.

The Diaspora Excellence Award reaffirmed Atlantic City’s reputation as a city that not only celebrates differences but also builds bridges across cultures. It reflected the administration’s continuous dedication to fostering respect, understanding, and unity among its diverse residents.

The Ghanaian community and local partners commended the city for its leadership in promoting cultural awareness and representation, emphasizing how such initiatives create a stronger, more connected Atlantic City.

The celebration of this milestone served as both a reminder and an inspiration for future programs that honor the many communities contributing to the city’s growth and vitality.

With this recognition, Atlantic City continues to set an example for other municipalities in celebrating multiculturalism and strengthening ties with international and diaspora communities.
