Members of the Atlantic City Police Department were formally recognized on Thursday night for their outstanding service and bravery during the annual Valor Awards Ceremony hosted by the 200 Club of Atlantic and Cape May Counties. The event highlighted the dedication and courage of first responders who had gone above and beyond in the protection of the community.
The 200 Club of Atlantic and Cape May Counties, a long-standing non-profit organization, has remained committed to providing financial assistance to the families of police, fire, and rescue personnel who have risked or lost their lives in the line of duty. Each year, the organization honors individuals who have displayed unquestionable valor when facing adversity and whose actions have made a meaningful difference in public safety.

During this year’s ceremony, several Atlantic City officers were commended for their distinguished service. Those honored included:
- Lieutenant James Herbert
- Sergeant Brian Hambrecht
- Sergeant Jonathan Walsh
- Officer Scott Sendrick
- Officer Melvin Murray III
- Officer Kyle Bender
- Detective Joshua Corona
a member of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office who had been assigned to the ACPD. These officers were recognized not only for specific acts of bravery but also for their continued professionalism and unwavering commitment to protecting the residents of Atlantic City. Their recognition underscored the department’s collective dedication to service and the high standards upheld by its members.
A particularly meaningful moment in the ceremony came with the presentation of the inaugural "Sergeant Eric Wise Memorial Award". The award was given to Detective Eric Evans, who had the honor of being the first recipient. The presentation was made by Sergeant Wise’s wife, Antonia, adding emotional depth to the occasion.
The memorial award was established to recognize the narcotics detective of the year and to honor the legacy of Sergeant Eric Wise, a respected member of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office who had worked closely with the Atlantic City Police Department throughout his career. Sergeant Wise passed away earlier this year, and his memory was strongly felt during the ceremony.
The event served not only as a celebration of individual achievements but also as a tribute to the ongoing commitment of law enforcement personnel who continue to protect and serve with integrity and resolve. The evening reinforced the deep appreciation felt for those who dedicate their lives to safeguarding the community.
