The Atlantic City Police Department proudly announced that Officer Kyle Bender was recognized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at Hard Rock Atlantic City for his life-saving actions on July 2, 2025.
Officer Melvin Murray also received this award, though he was unable to attend the ceremony. Standing alongside Officer Bender on stage was Lt. Arra, who had been on scene and actively involved in the rescue. His presence symbolized the teamwork and dedication that defined the heroic response.
On that day, ACPD officers responded swiftly to an emergency at the Hard Rock Casino garage, where a male in crisis threatened to jump from a ledge. The situation was tense and urgent, requiring courage, coordination, and quick decision-making.
As the man attempted to leap, Officers Bender and Murray, supported by Lt. Arra and additional ACPD officers, acted without hesitation. Together, they pulled the individual to safety, preventing what could have been a devastating tragedy.

The recognition highlighted not only the bravery of Officer Bender and Officer Murray but also the collective strength of the department. It underscored ACPD’s commitment to protecting lives and supporting individuals in their most vulnerable moments and serves as a reminder of the everyday sacrifices and commitments officers make to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
The award presentation at Hard Rock Atlantic City served as a moment of honor, reflection, and gratitude. It demonstrated the value of community partnerships and the importance of recognizing acts of compassion within law enforcement.
