Atlantic City Police Department Announces Promotions and Appointment

The Atlantic City Police Department announced the promotion of Officers Christopher Smith and Lauren Downey to the rank of Sergeant, along with the swearing-in of retired ACPD Officer Jimmy Bower as a Special Law Enforcement Officer assigned to the Atlantic City Municipal Court. These personnel changes reflected the department’s ongoing commitment to recognizing leadership, experience, and dedication among its officers.

Sergeant Christopher Smith had served with the Atlantic City Police Department since 2007. His promotion to sergeant was in recognition of his years of dedicated service, expertise in law enforcement, and leadership within the department.

Sergeant Lauren Downey, who joined the department in 2001, earned her promotion through consistent excellence, professionalism, and her commitment to community policing initiatives. Both sergeants were acknowledged for their leadership and contributions to maintaining public safety in Atlantic City.

In addition to the promotions, retired ACPD Officer Jimmy Bower was sworn in as a Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO). Officer Bower was assigned to the Atlantic City Municipal Court, where he provided law enforcement support and helped ensure safety within the judicial environment.
