Atlantic City Moves Forward with Paving Main 2 Roads

‍ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — A major piece of Atlantic City’s ongoing transformation is moving forward, with paving of both Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Avenue.

For residents, business owners, visitors and anyone considering Atlantic City as a place to live, work and invest, the announcement represents another visible step in the City’s continued investment in its infrastructure and the long-term future of its neighborhoods and business districts.

After months of underground utility work and years of planning and coordination, Atlantic Avenue will be milled and paved from Tennessee Avenue to Albany Avenue. At the same time, Pacific Avenue paving will begin from Hartford Avenue to Connecticut Avenue, with that project being completed in three phases. Both projects are expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Atlantic Avenue work will take place overnight during the week, beginning at 8 p.m., while Pacific Avenue construction will take place during the day. South State Inc. is the contractor for both projects.

The improvements are particularly significant because Atlantic and Pacific avenues serve as major corridors through the city. Better roads and upgraded infrastructure contribute to the overall experience of residents and visitors while supporting the businesses, housing developments and investments taking place throughout Atlantic City.

The Federal Highway Administration has approved paving Fairmount Avenue from Missouri Avenue to Winchester Avenue, with that work also expected to be completed before the end of the year. Baltic Avenue, from Maine Avenue to Missouri Avenue, has already been paved.

Mayor Marty Small, Sr. said the start of the Atlantic and Pacific Avenue projects marks an important milestone for the city and the residents, businesses and visitors who have been waiting for the work to begin.

“We know our residents, businesses and visitors have been waiting for this work to begin for a very long time, and we are excited to finally reach this point,” said Mayor Small. “We want the community to be there with us as we mark the start of this final phase and move closer to our new and improved streets. While this is the beginning of the end of this chapter, we’re going to continue to keep our foot on the gas under the Small Administration and deliver quality services.”
