The City of Atlantic City announced a major step forward in expanding clean energy access and reducing household expenses with the launch of its Community Solar initiative. The program, introduced under Mayor Marty Small Sr., offered residents the opportunity to lower their electric bills by up to 15 percent.

Through a competitive Request for Proposals process, the city awarded a community solar contract to HESP Solar, a provider selected to construct and manage new solar energy infrastructure across key municipal properties. As part of the project, solar canopies were installed at the City Hall employee parking lot on Arctic Avenue and the Public Works Complex parking lot on Albany Avenue.

These installations were designed to generate locally sourced solar energy that directly supported the program. Residents who chose to opt in were able to receive immediate savings on their monthly electric bills. One of the program’s most significant advantages was that residents did not need to install panels on their own homes, making clean energy participation accessible to renters, homeowners, and households of all income levels.

City officials highlighted the initiative as part of Atlantic City’s broader efforts to promote sustainability, energy resilience, and financial relief for families. By collaborating with HESP Solar, the city demonstrated its commitment to building partnerships that deliver long-term economic and environmental benefits to the community.

The Community Solar initiative stood as a notable achievement in Atlantic City’s ongoing push to provide residents with practical, cost-saving solutions while advancing its clean energy goals.
