The City of Atlantic City Government and the Office of Emergency Management had issued flood warnings and beach restrictions as Hurricane Erin moved up the East Coast. While the storm was not expected to make direct landfall in New Jersey, officials had urged residents and visitors to take necessary precautions.

Hurricane Erin had been forecasted to bring major coastal flooding, strong winds, and severe beach erosion along the shoreline, creating hazardous conditions for the Atlantic City area.

As part of the response, the Atlantic City Beach Patrol had restricted bathing through Thursday, with officials planning to reassess the situation on Friday once conditions were clearer.

Residents in flood-prone areas were strongly advised to relocate their vehicles to higher ground by 5:00 PM on Thursday, ensuring safety and minimizing potential storm damage.

To assist residents, the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority authorized free parking at the Wave Parking Garage, located at Mississippi and Fairmount Avenues. This measure was effective from 10:00 AM Thursday through 10:00 AM Friday.

Authorities also alerted motorists to prepare for possible lane reductions or temporary closures on Route 30 and Route 40 due to flooding, particularly during Thursday evening’s high tide.

The public had been reminded to avoid driving through flooded streets or attempting to go around Atlantic City Police Department barricades, which had been placed to protect residents from dangerous flood conditions.

Both residents and businesses were instructed to bring outdoor furniture, equipment, or any items that could become dangerous projectiles indoors to prevent storm damage.

To stay informed and safe, residents had been encouraged to sign up for AC ALERTS, Atlantic City’s emergency notification system, which provided timely updates and advisories during the storm.

The proactive measures taken by Atlantic City officials reflected the community’s commitment to preparedness and public safety during severe weather events, helping to minimize risks and keep residents safe.
