The City of Atlantic City is continuing its efforts to improve and beautify neighborhoods throughout the City, with historic Gardner’s Basin the latest area to receive significant upgrades. City officials recently broke ground on a new public comfort station, marking another step in enhancing the waterfront destination for residents, boaters and visitors.

Mayor Marty Small, Sr., joined by city leaders and project contractors, announced the start of construction on the $2.3 Million, grant-funded project. The new amenities are designed to make Gardner’s Basin more convenient, accessible and welcoming for everyone who spends time there.

The new comfort station, located just off the Seawall, will feature accessible men’s and women’s restrooms with multiple stalls, a family restroom and a shower room with combination-lock access for boaters. These additions will provide greater convenience for families enjoying the waterfront, visitors exploring the area and boaters using Gardner’s Basin as a destination.

The project also includes landscaping improvements and a new irrigation system to enhance the area’s appearance. The Seawall parking lot and the street between the lot and the Atlantic City Aquarium will receive new paving, curbing and sidewalks, creating a more attractive and accessible experience for pedestrians and motorists alike.

The project is expected to be completed by the start of the 2027 summer season.

Building on Progress at Gardner’s Basin

The latest upgrades build on several improvements completed at Gardner’s Basin in recent years, including the reopening of the Atlantic City Aquarium following extensive interior and exterior renovations and repairs; completion of the Maine Avenue Promenade; pier and piling replacements; dredging; new lighting and signage throughout the basin; and the installation of electric vehicle charging stations.

Over the summer, the Gardner’s Basin Seawall also became one of two designated locations in Atlantic City where licensed and approved food trucks can operate, expanding dining options while creating opportunities for local food businesses.

Together, these enhancements make Gardner’s Basin a more enjoyable place to walk, dine, explore and spend time along the water. Improved restrooms, sidewalks, parking areas and landscaping will benefit residents who regularly use the area while creating a more welcoming experience for visitors.

Improving Quality of Life Across Atlantic City

From the waterfront to neighborhood streets and public spaces, Atlantic City continues to identify opportunities to make its neighborhoods cleaner, more attractive and more accessible. These improvements help maintain the city’s appeal, support local businesses and enhance the quality of life for the people who call Atlantic City home.

With the new comfort station and additional site upgrades underway, Gardner’s Basin is poised to offer an even better experience for the 2027 summer season and beyond.
