Atlantic City has a long tradition of coming together when members of the community need support, and that spirit was on full display at Pop Lloyd Stadium during a special Home Run Derby honoring longtime Atlantic City Recreation Adult Softball League member Bionic Gwala.
Bionic is currently battling lymphoma, and players from all 14 teams in the league came together for an evening of friendly competition with a much bigger purpose of supporting their friend, raising awareness for lymphoma and reminding Bionic that he has an entire community behind him.
Atlantic City Recreation also presented Bionic with a special plaque recognizing his years as part of the Adult Softball League.
The event was a reflection of the relationships built through Atlantic City's Recreation programs and the sense of community that extends well beyond the playing field. Players, families and supporters showed up to rally around one of their own, turning a night of softball into a powerful display of friendship and support.
