The City of Atlantic City recently launched its Small Business Micro Grant Program, an initiative created to provide financial relief to local businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program was made possible through more than $400,000 in federal funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), ensuring that small, for-profit businesses within the city limits had the resources needed to recover.
Eligible businesses received grants of up to $15,000, which supported their ability to manage financial hardships, retain jobs, and strengthen long-term resiliency in the wake of pandemic challenges.
Funds were available for critical expenses such as payroll, rent, mortgage, utilities, equipment, inventory, and operational costs incurred between March 3, 2021, and October 1, 2023.
The program also recognized the unique struggles of new entrepreneurs. Startups and newer businesses established in 2022 or later were given the opportunity to apply, ensuring both longstanding and emerging businesses had access to support.
In addition to direct grants, the initiative included a reimbursement-based program for existing businesses, allowing them to recover costs already paid during the eligible timeframe.
To qualify, businesses were required to be for-profit, independently owned, located in Atlantic City, registered in New Jersey, employ 50 or fewer people, and provide documentation of financial hardship caused by the pandemic.
Full program guidelines and applications are accessible through the city’s official website, giving business owners clear instructions and resources to navigate the process.
