Atlantic City’s proud history of Black entrepreneurship is taking center stage once again. Following the success of the Black Business Expo, the City of Atlantic City has released the Atlantic City Black Business Directory 2025 — a resource designed to spotlight, support, and strengthen Black-owned businesses throughout the city.

The new directory serves not only as a guide to local goods and services but also as a tribute to the generations of Black entrepreneurs who helped shape Atlantic City’s cultural and economic foundation.

A Legacy of Enterprise and Resilience

For more than a century, Atlantic City has been home to a vibrant community of Black-owned businesses. During the early and mid-20th century, the city’s Northside neighborhood thrived as a hub of entrepreneurship and civic pride.

According to Ralph Hunter, founder of the African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey, the 80-square-block Northside “was once a thriving community of businesses, entrepreneurs, and professionals — including doctors, lawyers, dentists, and funeral directors.”

In a segregated America, Atlantic City’s Black residents built parallel systems of success. They opened hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues that welcomed travelers and performers excluded from white-only establishments.

Celebrating a New Chapter of Black Entrepreneurship

Today, that same entrepreneurial energy is alive again. The Atlantic City Black Business Directory 2025 builds on the success of the city’s Black Business Expo, held this summer at the All Wars Memorial Building. The Expo brought together dozens of local business owners, vendors, and community leaders for a night of networking, storytelling, and economic empowerment.

Now, the directory continues that momentum year-round, providing a one-stop resource for residents and visitors to discover and support Black-owned businesses across industries such as:

  • Food and beverage
  • Professional services
  • Retail and fashion
  • Health and wellness
  • Arts, entertainment, and event planning

The directory aims to make it easier than ever for consumers to #ShopLocal and invest in the businesses that make Atlantic City stronger.

A Living Tribute to Atlantic City’s Black Legacy

The Atlantic City Black Business Directory 2025 is more than a list — it’s a living tribute to the entrepreneurs who turned challenge into opportunity, and a reminder that the city’s progress is rooted in the strength of its people.

Whether you’re looking to hire a local service provider, dine at a Black-owned restaurant, or explore the city’s cultural heritage, the directory offers countless ways to celebrate, support, and sustain Atlantic City’s Black business community.
