Atlantic Avenue Pre-Paving Work Ramps Up

One of Atlantic City's most anticipated infrastructure projects is getting even closer to the finish line.

As critical underground Atlantic Avenue Improvement Project utility work ramps up, crews will soon be prepared to begin milling and paving this fall. Residents, businesses, and visitors can expect to see significant visible progress as construction shifts from preparation to transformation.

Much of the work to this point took place below the surface, with crews upgrading utilities and preparing the roadway for paving. At Mayor Small's direction, contractors are accelerating construction and reallocating resources to ensure the project remains on schedule for completion this year.

A key feature of the project is a partnership with Atlantic City Electric, which will own, operate, and maintain the new corridor lighting system. The agreement improves reliability while providing long-term savings for taxpayers.

Atlantic Avenue is being modernized with synchronized traffic signals, enhanced street lighting, surveillance cameras, ADA-accessible sidewalks and curb ramps, high-visibility crosswalks, and streetscape improvements that will make the corridor safer, more accessible, and more attractive. The Atlantic Avenue Improvement Project is part of more than $250 million in infrastructure investments transforming Atlantic City through roadway improvements, flood resilience projects, park upgrades, utility enhancements, and neighborhood revitalization.

Once paving begins, Atlantic Avenue will quickly take on a new look, serving as another visible example of Atlantic City's continued investment in its future.
