Over the weekend, Atlantic City Recreation gave 35 local kids the opportunity of a lifetime, an exciting and activity-packed trip to Virginia. Made possible by the generous support of Atlantic City's Planning & Development Department's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), this experience created lasting memories for both the youth and the staff who accompanied them.

The group’s adventure began with a journey south, where their first major stop was the iconic Busch Gardens. The kids tackled roller coasters, explored themed zones, and soaked in the park’s lively atmosphere. For many, it was their first time at a major amusement park, and the excitement was unmatched.

Next, the group cooled off at Water Country, Virginia’s popular water park. The day was filled with splashes, slides, and laughs as the kids enjoyed wave pools, water rides, and relaxing time under the sun.

In the evenings, the fun didn’t stop. One night included a dinner stop at the legendary Southern eatery Cookout, where the group enjoyed classic Southern-style meals. Another evening turned their hotel lobby into a scene of community fun with a round of “Atlantic City kids do Bingo in VA.”

Throughout the trip, the energy remained high and the camaraderie among the kids grew stronger. The experience not only offered a break from routine but also encouraged social interaction, team spirit, and personal growth in a safe and supervised setting.

The City of Atlantic City and Atlantic City Recreation expressed deep appreciation to Community Development Block Grant for making this meaningful trip possible. Their support enabled kids to access experiences that many had never encountered before, highlighting the importance of recreational and cultural exposure for young people.

Staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure that the trip ran smoothly, prioritizing both fun and safety. Their efforts did not go unnoticed, as parents, community members, and the youth themselves shared glowing feedback upon their return.

Trips like these reinforce Atlantic City Recreation’s commitment to enriching the lives of Atlantic City’s youth—not just through local programs, but by offering new environments that broaden their perspectives and build unforgettable experiences.
