The City of Atlantic City marked a significant milestone with the opening of its first official Dog Park, giving local residents and their furry companions a dedicated space to enjoy the outdoors. The Grand Opening event took place on June 26, 2025, at S. New Hampshire and Pacific Avenues in Altman Park, and featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Marty Small, Sr., city officials, and representatives from the Inlet Community Development Corporation (CDC).
This new dog-friendly facility was created to promote exercise, socialization, and a sense of community among dog owners. Designed with both safety and enjoyment in mind, the park consisted of two separate play areas: one for dogs over 40 pounds, and another for those up to 40 pounds.
Each section included obstacle course equipment, open spaces for running, and plenty of room for dogs to interact. The surfaces featured a combination of grass and mulch to support comfort and safety while dogs played.
To help maintain cleanliness, the Dog Park was equipped with multiple waste stations, including bags provided on site. Pet owners were expected to dispose of waste properly to keep the space clean and enjoyable for everyone.
Health and safety were also top priorities. All dogs using the park were required to have up-to-date vaccinations. Owners with aggressive dogs were asked not to bring them, ensuring a peaceful environment for all visitors.
The Dog Park operated from sunrise to sunset, with gates locked outside of these hours. This schedule was set to help manage activity in the park and promote responsible usage.
The project was a collaboration between several city departments. The Health & Human Services Department oversaw park operations, while the Planning & Development Department handled the design. Funding was secured through the City of Atlantic City's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Office.
The new park reflected the city's commitment to enhancing recreational opportunities and quality of life for residents. With pets playing an important role in family and community life, this facility added a valuable new asset to the neighborhood.
Community members welcomed the Dog Park with enthusiasm, appreciating the thought and care that went into its planning and construction. The opening signaled not just a new park, but a celebration of Atlantic City’s ongoing investment in community wellness.
This project stood as a reminder of what can be achieved when city leadership and community organizations work hand in hand. The Dog Park at Altman Park became more than just a place for dogs—it became a hub for community connection.
