During the Clean & Safe segment of Mayor Marty Small, Sr.’s 2025 State of the City address, he highlighted the city’s continued efforts toenhance public safety by strategically adding police officers to areashistorically plagued by crime.
“We added extra presence on Florida, Georgia, and Bellevue Avenue, which has been a thorn in every administration’s side,” Mayor Small said during his presentation. “But we’re making progress now with our police officers over there.”
One local business owner sees the impact firsthand.
Nancy Claud, owner of Love Caters All at 30 S. Florida Avenue, purchased her property last year. Since then, she has had a front row seat to watch the area transform for the better and credits the improvement in safety as a key factor in her ability to grow her event planning business.
“In the beginning, those of you who know about Florida Avenue, it was a nightmare,” she said. “I went to Mayor Small’s office, and I explained the situation to him, and he addressed it with the Atlantic City Police Department, and every time I called his office, he helped me out, so I thank him for helping get Florida Avenue cleaned.”
With a renewed sense of security, Claud has been able to turn Love Caters All into a full-service business offering planning, decoration, and venue space for weddings and events — especially for clients looking for last-minute solutions. The business also features upstairs suites for overnight accommodation.
“It’s a full package, one-stop shop,” she said with a smile.
Now that safety is less of a concern at her property, Claud says she’s refocusing on her vision: providing elegance and comfort while creating job opportunities for residents.
“I would love for everyone to come to see something the city was missing,” she added. “We would love to host more Black theater – jazz, plays –so that’s something I would love to add to the city. I love Atlantic City. I think it’s a great city with great potential. I wouldn’t choose anywhere else.”
Based on what she's seen happen outside her business, she’s eager for others to witness the changes. “Please come check out Florida Avenue,” Claud said. “It’s a whole new world, and Mayor Small did help.”
