The City of Atlantic City celebrated a major milestone on June 26, 2025, with the grand opening of its first official, city-run Dog Park—delivering a dedicated outdoor space where dogs and their owners can play, exercise, and connect.
Located at S. New Hampshire and Pacific Avenues in Altman Park, the ribbon-cutting event was led by Mayor Marty Small, Sr., joined by city officials and representatives from the Inlet Community Development Corporation (CDC). The celebration marked a moment of community pride and progress as Atlantic City continued to expand recreational opportunities for residents—and their furry companions.
Purposefully designed for fun and safety, the dog park features two separate play zones: one for dogs over 40 pounds, and another for pups up to 40 pounds. Both areas include obstacle course equipment, wide-open spaces for running, and surfaces made of grass and mulch to ensure comfort and reduce injury.
Cleanliness and pet health were top priorities. The park is outfitted with multiple waste stations and complimentary waste bags to help keep the space tidy and enjoyable. To ensure a peaceful environment, only dogs with up-to-date vaccinations are permitted, and owners of aggressive dogs are asked not to bring them.
Open from sunrise to sunset, the park offers a safe, structured environment for pets and people alike. After hours, gates are locked to encourage responsible use and care.
This exciting project came to life through collaboration between city departments, with the Health & Human Services Department managing operations and the Planning & Development Department overseeing the park’s thoughtful design. Funding was secured through the City of Atlantic City's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Office.
More than just a park, this new facility represents Atlantic City’s commitment to wellness, community, and pet-friendly living. Residents enthusiastically welcomed the addition, recognizing it as both a place for play and a space to build bonds among neighbors.
The Dog Park at Altman Park is a testament to what’s possible when leadership and community work hand in hand—a space where tails wag, friendships grow, and Atlantic City continues to thrive.
